At the heart of downtown Wilmington, the Community Justice Center in the Harrelson Center serves survivors of trauma and those navigating some of life’s most difficult moments. Our design team was deeply honored to help reimagine this space—not only as a hub for critical services, but as an environment rooted in care. From the beginning, it was clear that this project would need to feel soft, safe, and approachable. We leaned into calming color palettes, natural textures, and thoughtfully layered furnishings to transform offices and waiting areas into warm, welcoming spaces that offer quiet comfort the moment you step inside.
Designing a civic space with this level of emotional weight required sensitivity, collaboration, and quick turnarounds. We focused on high-impact details—incorporating performance materials, soft lighting, and art that inspires calm. A coastal-inspired palette of amber, green, and tranquil blue helped connect the space to its community while offering a sense of lightness. The end result is a subtle but meaningful transformation that supports the mission of the CJC and reflects the strength and care of the people who walk through its doors.
