Enduring, Gracious, Timeless

Southern Charmer

Wilmington, NC

The overall design concept for this project revolved around putting an updated twist on traditional style. The interiors feature really interesting juxtapositions between light and dark, masculine, and feminine, familiar and fresh. Every room is meant to be enjoyed, and every surface is meant to be used. With young children and a busy lifestyle, we aimed to provide style without sacrificing peace of mind! The den’s emerald green paint color was chosen by the previous homeowners, and we knew we wanted to keep it. Since the dining room is visible through the den and kitchen, its wallpaper pattern would unite the entire first floor. The grasscloth mural offered lovely colors and a classic pattern that complemented the existing architecture and opened avenues to other colors. Its airy, neutral background perfectly juxtaposes the saturated green walls and trim in the den. Konrady & Son Construction installed picture frame paneling below the dining room chair rail and relocated the chandelier from the breakfast room to add drama and whimsy. Additionally, crystal and brass sconces were installed in the den to bounce more light. They’re a glamorous moment in an otherwise handsome space.

One of my favorite elements of the finished project is the newly reupholstered dining room chairs! They hold sentimental value as they belonged to my client’s great-grandmothers and a few of our local vendors came together to repair and reupholster them. The playful blue and green ikat fabric adds personality and flair to the chairs, striking just the right balance of fun. I equally love the understated and relaxed ambiance of the breakfast room and kitchen. Sitting at the breakfast table almost feels like being outdoors under the live oaks. In the living room, the topiary tryptic installed next to the game table is another highlight. Their bright colors and oversized scale breathe life into the soothing blue and white color palette, adding a fresh twist to the traditional botanical prints. It has been wonderful to have had multiple opportunities to work with this sweet family! We refreshed and renovated spaces in their first Wilmington home, and I enjoyed the process with them from start to finish. Additionally, I was already familiar with their new house, as mutual friends of ours had lived in it! This home has been a favorite of mine for several years, and it was an honor to be part of its revamp!
